The 2009 jumping program has been launched by RVL. The program was developed in consultation with the AJRA and host clubs. Enthusiasts need to be mindful of the parameters set when writing the program including the restrictions of the tracks races are programmed, the VRC committing to only two race meetings, RVL 'capping' prize money to 3.5 million (a drop of about $430,000 dollars or 12%), races to be not less than 3200 metres & that race dates for 2009 to July had already been set. The consultation also engaged the host clubs and we believe it flows with two opportunities for trainers at both ends of the season to race for prize money. Some of the highlights include: Season starter March 1 MJ Bourke Hurdle on Pakenham Cup Day, $25,000. Yarra Glen hosting two steeplchase events over the hill before the three day carnival at Warrnambool wih a quality Hurdle and Steeple valued at $30,000 each on April 26. Mornington hosting a quality day on May 24. The Australian Hurdle and Steeple remaining unchanged in June 13. Moonee Valley's race dates and program remain unchanged from 2008 with the Hiskens in July. Betfair Park will host a Quality Hurdle and Steeple on July 1 to kick off the start of some Premier races. Juky 18 sees oe hosting their Nationals at $25,000 each. The Rookie Chasers Series will kick off at Hamilton on August 9 with further heats at Casterton and Moe and the final being held at Warrnambool in September. Yarra Valley will again host a steeple over the hill in September before the season finale bang at Mornington on September 26 and the Great Southern Steeple. Coleraine will host the final race of the season on September 27 with their Adam Lyndsay Gordon Steeplechase. The JJ Houlahan Championship will be cut in Victoria to 11 races only. The Irish Jockey Challenge should it go ahead in 2009 may take place from July 12 at Warrnambool to July 19 at Casterton. |
